The inaugural signature experience, The Newark Historical Renaissance Ride, a celebration of biking advocacy, history, architecture, style, music, and art, presented a rare and unique opportunity for participants to experience the grand decades of old, celebrating period dress, and completion of a cycle route which presented an architectural and historical account of Newark.

For the Culture with Artist Bisa Butler & Filmmaker Nefertite Nguvu
The Newark Historical Renaissance Ride invites you to an evening with two leading women New Jersey artists on June 24th in Newark. Bisa Butler in discussion her body of work in fiber arts and filmmaker Nefertite Nguvu who will present a screening & discussion of her documentary short "Newark, Art for the People"
BISA BUTLER is an American fiber artist known for her quilted portraits and designs celebrating black life. She has exhibited at the Smithsonian Museum of American History, the Epcot Center, the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, and other venues.
NEFERTITE NGUVU is a writer, director, and producer and founder of the production company Hollywood Africans. Her multiple award winning first feature film, In the Morning , was shot in eight days.[ Shadow and Act said of In the Morning, “Nguvu crafts each relationship and character as its own poem, evoking a certain emotion that is elevated by the cinematography of renowned image-maker Arthur Jafa.” She created her short film, The Last Two Lovers at the End of the World with AT&T Hello Lab.
